1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how FlatChat collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the FlatChat website, iOS app, and related services.

FlatChat is intended for household coordination between flatmates. The service stores shared household content so everyone in the same flat can see the same bills, lists, and reminders.

2. Data We Collect

We collect the information needed to create your account, connect you to a flat, and run the shared features you choose to use.

  • Account details: your user identifier, name, email address, and Sign in with Apple authentication details.
  • Flat membership: your flat name, invite codes, member roles, and membership status.
  • Household content: expenses, balances, list items, reminders, notes, assignees, recurrence settings, and completion state.
  • Receipts and uploads: files or images you attach to expenses or household records.
  • Device and service data: basic diagnostics such as app version, device type, timestamps, and logs needed to keep the service reliable.

3. How We Use Data

We use your information to provide and improve FlatChat, including account authentication, flat invitations, bill splitting, shared lists, reminders, quiet hours, notifications, support, security, and abuse prevention.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use your household content for third-party advertising.

4. Sharing and Service Providers

Your household content is shared with members of the flat it belongs to. For example, when you add a grocery item or expense, other flat members can see it.

We may use trusted providers to operate FlatChat, including authentication, database hosting, file storage, analytics, notifications, email delivery, and customer support. These providers are only allowed to process data for the services they provide to FlatChat.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect users, or to investigate misuse of the service.

5. Security

FlatChat uses Sign in with Apple for authentication and row-level security rules to limit access to the flat records a user is allowed to see. Receipts and uploads are stored in private buckets scoped to the right household access rules.

No online service can guarantee perfect security. If you believe your account or flat data has been accessed incorrectly, contact us as soon as possible.

6. Retention and Deletion

We keep your account and household data for as long as needed to provide FlatChat, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and maintain service integrity.

When you delete your account, FlatChat removes or anonymises personal data associated with your account unless we are required to keep it. Shared flat records may remain visible to other members where they are part of the household history, unless deletion of that data is requested and permitted.

For a production release, have this policy reviewed against the exact backend, analytics, support, and notification providers you use.

7. Your Choices and Rights

You can update account details in the app where supported, leave a flat, change notification preferences, and delete your account.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or object to the processing of your personal information. Contact us to make a request.

8. Children

FlatChat is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as FlatChat changes. If the changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users in the app, on the website, or by email.
